Akron PA Borough - Police Department
The Akron Borough Police Department consists of 5 full-time Officers and 3 part-time Officers.
Our Department has Officers who are:
Chief Zell has been an Akron Borough Police Officer since June 1986 and has been the Chief since 2005. Excluding the four years he served in the U.S. Army, he has lived his entire life in the Borough of Akron.
Sgt. Dale Putt has served the Borough of Akron since 1991.
The Department also has 3 part-time officers:
The Police Department utilizes three marked patrol vehicles and we also have two Trek Mountain Bikes for our bike patrol officers. The Akron Borough Police Department wants to remind residents to lock up their homes and vehicles to help protect themselves and their property against crime, report any suspicious persons or activities immediately, and utilize crime prevention tools such as motion detector lights and dead bolt locks.
Lancaster County Chief's Joint Hiring
The Akron Borough Police Department is a member of the Lancaster County Chief’s of Police Joint Hiring Consortium. Anyone interested in becoming a full-time Police Officer with our Department must go through the application process. The application processes is detailed on the Lancaster County Chief’s website at Lancastercops.org (Click on employment). Physical agility testing will be held at Elizabethtown College on September 21st and 22nd, 2013 and the written exam will be given on October 6th, 2013 at the Lancaster County Public Training Center.
